Ann Hussey KC champions future advocates and takes the helm of Education Committee

Fresh from an inspiring visit to the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Law, Ann Hussey KC has returned to the UK with renewed commitment to supporting the next generation of advocates. She travelled with four Middle Temple students – Edward O’Connor, Michael Freeman, Dan Pluck and Sam Street – who took part in a series of moots against UNC teams.

The visit culminated in a final speed moot held in the Federal Court, where the students faced a “hot bench” of distinguished jurists: Ann herself, Federal District Judge Richard Myers, Ken Broun and Professor Dean Emeritus of the School of Law. The Middle Temple team’s preparation, reasoning and delivery provided a powerful demonstration of the standards set by the Middle Temple Education Programme, curated by Director of Education Christa Richmond.

Beyond recognising the achievements of these students, the trip highlighted the value of international legal exchanges and competitions. They allow aspiring barristers to sharpen their skills in new environments, broaden their understanding of different jurisdictions, and develop the resilience and agility demanded in modern advocacy.

Ann has now taken on a new role closer to home: Chair of the 1 Hare Court Education Committee. In this position, she’ll continue to nurture the talents of the next generation, expanding opportunities for pupils and junior practitioners to develop their courtroom skills and professional networks. Her leadership promises to build on 1 Hare Court’s strong tradition of mentoring and training, ensuring that tomorrow’s family law advocates have the guidance and support they need to excel.

This combination of hands-on mentoring abroad and strategic leadership at home underscores Ann Hussey KC’s longstanding commitment to education in the law as she helps to secure the future of advocacy at the highest level.
