RI v NG [2025] EWFC 9 (B) now available on BAILII today – a rare Married Women’s Property Act case in which Henrietta Boyle appeared for the successful applicant, instructed by Kelly Edwards and Izzy Rarok at Edwards Family Law.
Our client sought the return of jewellery worth c. £68,000 – including an engagement ring – which he said his former fiancée had taken from him before calling off their engagement. The respondent’s case was that she did not have the items/they did not exist, but that the parties had never been engaged such that the court had no jurisdiction to order their return anyway.
DJ Ashworth granted our client’s application in full and the respondent was ordered to return all of the items, including the engagement ring (the presumption that it was a gift having been rebutted), or in default to pay to the applicant the value of each item not returned.
Anonymised case name inspired by the recent spate of memorably named family law authorities…
