Practice

Peter was appointed King’s Counsel in 2020, following a decade at the forefront of appellate family law. His career has included appearances in the Supreme Court in the landmark cases of Agbaje and Sharland, and multiple significant decisions in the Court of Appeal, including Prest, Brack, Hart, and most recently Goddard-Watts, where he led the wife’s legal team in a successful and widely noted appeal — the climax of hard-fought litigation spanning more than ten years.

Peter’s practice covers all areas of financial remedy law, including high-value matrimonial finance, Schedule 1 claims for children, and cases involving substantial or complex asset structures. His work often engages issues relating to trusts (onshore and offshore), tax, company valuations, injunctive relief and third-party disclosure. He has considerable experience in cross-border jurisdictional disputes and is frequently instructed in relation to pre-nuptial, post-nuptial and cohabitation agreements, both at the drafting stage and in enforcement or avoidance proceedings.

He is particularly well regarded for his work on non-disclosure and setting aside orders — the central issues in Sharland and Goddard-Watts — and for his expertise in enforcement and contempt proceedings, as illustrated in Prest (where he defended the contemnor) and Hart (in which he established that the husband was in contempt of court and secured an order committing him to prison for 14 months).

Peter is ranked as a leading silk in Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and Spears 500. The Legal 500 (2025) described him as “ferociously intelligent and an incredible advocate.” Chambers (2025) praised his “really good way of hearing what the clients have to say.”

In addition to his litigation practice, Peter is frequently instructed as a Private FDR evaluator. He is Band 1-listed for his work in this area and is widely respected for his ability to facilitate settlement in even the most challenging cases.
